Conditions

The 1st International Fürstenau Flute Competition is open to flutists of all nations. The auditions are open to the public. They will take place from 25 to 30 September 2023 in Münster/Westphalia. The venues are the Musikhochschule Münster and the Theater Münster.


Age Limits

The competition is open to flutists born between 25 September 1992 and 24 September 2005.


Application

The closing date for applications is 30 April 2023.

You can apply for the International Fürstenau Flute Competition exclusively online. The online portal will be activated from 01.03.2023.

Include with your application:

  • the scan of an official document certifying your date and place of birth (birth certificate, identity card or equivalent),
  • a PDF of your short biography in English or German (artistic career, teachers, degrees, prizes and awards, if applicable),
  • a current portrait photo (high resolution JPG), which we may use free of charge for publications in all media in connection with the IFFC
  • your competition program,
  • the link to your video for the preselection,
  • if desired, your request to stay with a host family free of charge,
  • the proof that you have paid the registration fee of 40 €.

Don’t forget your name on your proof of payment!

Only complete applications will be considered!

By applying, you accept the conditions of participation and undertake not to enter into any professional or other commitments for the duration of the competition.

Admission to the competition

The number of participants is limited to about 40 musicians.

The preliminary jury decides on the admission to the IFFC after reviewing all applicant videos. They make their choice exclusively on the basis of the musical performances documented in the application videos. The decision of the preliminary jury will not be explained. It is final and there is no legal claim to admission to the competition.

By June 5, 2023, applicants will receive an e-mail informing them whether or not they are admitted to the IFFC in Münster.


Admitted candidates / participation fee

After receipt of the confirmation of admission, candidates must confirm their participation in the competition immediately, but no later than June 30, 2023 via the application portal muvac.

A participation fee of 50 € is due with the confirmation of participation.

The participation fee will not be refunded if the candidate is unable to attend or cancels his or her participation.


Schedule

The IFFC auditions are open to the public and take place in three rounds. The 1st and 2nd rounds will take place at the Musikhochschule Münster and the final with the Sinfonieorchester Münster at the Theater Münster.

If you are admitted to the IFFC, your participation in the opening of the competition is expected.

Applicants who do not come to the enrollment and the opening with the drawing of lots for the audition, who are not able to present their confirmation of participation at the enrolment or who are late for their audition in a competition round cannot demand to be heard. If they are late through no fault of their own, admitted candidates may take part in the competition if the jury agrees to their participation.

Their rehearsal times and rehearsal room will be communicated to all participants after their performance time has been drawn.

Page turners are available to the pianists free of charge if required.

All participants who have been eliminated in the 1st and 2nd rounds will have the opportunity to receive feedback from the jury on Friday morning.

Accompanist

For the competition, recognized pianists are available as accompanists free of charge. However, each flutist may bring their own piano accompanist at their own expense. The name of the piano accompanist must be given at the time of registration.


Travel, Accomodation, Food

The costs for travel to and from the competition, accommodation and meals are to be borne by the participants and their accompanists. They also have to book their accommodations themselves.

The IFFC can offer a limited number of free private rooms in host families to the participants and their piano accompanists. If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please indicate your wish in the application in the online portal. If there are fewer private rooms available than requested, rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.


Disclaimer

The organizers do not assume any liability for the property (including instruments) of the participants.


Media recording and use

The IFFC or its agents have the right to make radio, television and video recordings as well as photographs of all competition performances without payment to the participants and to use these extensively in all media and for advertising or other purposes of the IFFC, the GWK, the Musikhochschule Münster, the Sinfonieorchester Münster and the Volksbank Münsterland Nord without any limit on circulation.

With their application, the participants agree to the media recording and, if applicable, a live broadcast of the competition.


Legal

By registering, the applicants accept the conditions of the competition and the decisions of the jury. Legal recourse and the appeal of jury decisions are excluded.
